While living at the base of an active volcano in Hawaii between 1985 and 1989, Wesselman had a series of visionary experiences that projected him 5, 000 years into the future. Through the consciousness of a Hawaiian shaman, he glimpses the remains of Western civilization destroyed by a rise in ocean levels, and follows the native Hawaiians on a journey to the former California.
